Star
Inn, Bath, Somerset.
This pub is a national treasure. Inside, this is a marvelous
pub, with the original Victorian fixtures and fittings.
It is the brewery tap for Bath’s only brewery,
Abbey Ales. Bellringer is always on sale as is Bass,
served in jugs directly from the barrel. Three other
guest beers always available.

Langley
Hall Inn, World’s End, Berkshire.
A nice place for a break from the M4 motorway. Certainly
plenty of variety in this pub, from a cappuccino machine
to a wine bar to rather nice dogs. Old wood floors,
with a light & airy atmosphere. The village sign
says,‘Worlds End, Please Drive Carefully’
(!!)

New
Inn, Send, Surrey.
Part of a four-pub tour in Surrey, the New Inn got us
off to a good start. A warm, welcoming atmosphere, low
ceilings, and a lovely location by the canal.

Jovial
Sailor, Ripley, Surrey.
I have been in several ‘Jolly Sailor’ pubs,
but never a ‘Jovial Sailor’, but then I
suppose we are in Surrey! Plenty of space in this pub,
but nice secluded booths, and reasonable beer. For pubs,
Ripley is the place to be - it has seven pubs!

Anchor
Inn, Ripley, Surrey.
A rich vein of pubs may be found in Ripley High Street.
The Anchor is old, intimate and very friendly. The nautical
theme (so far from the coast) is explained by the fact
that this is the old Portsmouth to London Road, and
the traveling sailors would always stop by. It was originally
a 16th Century alms house.

Ship
Inn, Ripley, Surrey.
What a great little pub. Full of locals (and dogs!),
low-slung ceilings, good beer, tons of atmosphere, and
even, on this occasion, good company! Certainly worth
a visit, and then a re-visit.

Eight
Bells, Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire.
The village of Chipping Campden is a good day out on
its won, even better if you can visit the Eight Bells
and claim your free pint. Cotswold stone has a lovely
inviting golden glow to it, and inside it is no less
welcoming.

Green
Man, Long Itchington, Warwickshire.
On the day we visited the Green Man, there standing
on a table right outside the pub was… a Green
Man. Morris Dancers are still very popular in England
and most of them were at the Green Man pub that day!

White
Hart, Cold Ashton, Gloucestershire.
A little further along the Cotswold Way path we found
the White Hart, a little more upscale with a distinct
equine motif. A little more up-market than many pubs,
but a pleasant stop along the Way.

The
Dog Inn, Old Sodbury, Gloucestershire.
We stayed overnight here while walking the Cotswold
Way several years ago, and felt very comfortable here.
The dog on the sign has changed, the outside paint has
gone from pink to brown, but the welcome is still very
much in place.
